Shrove Tuesday is known as the last day of carnival. In some regions, this last holiday before the fasting season is the proper highlight of the holidays. In the night to Ash Wednesday, there are rituals like the "Nubbelverbrennung" to end the carnival symbolically. Internationally, there are other traditions, like the Pancake Day in England, on which they eat pancakes, whereas in the southern states of the USA, the "Mardi Gras" is celebrated as the highlight of carnival.
