Basel Carnival

The Basel carnival is one of the biggest carnival events in Switzerland. Only the actively participating members of the procession are dressed up, whereas in Germany everyone is dressed up on the carnival. In the beginning of the ceremony, the so called "Morgestraich", the whole city center of Basel is darkened and is only illuminated by the lights of the procession. Traditionally the restaurants and food stands offer "Mehlsuppe" or "Käsewähe" to eat.
