Liberator José de San Martin
The holiday is dedicated to José de San Martín. San Martín was a South American freedom fighter and fought for the freedom of Chile, Peru and Argentina, which were colonies of Spain back then. He conquered the capitals Santiago de Chile and Lima with his troops and engaged new, national governments in both countries. His death anniversary on 17 August 1850 is solemnized as a holiday in his home country Argentina.
