The Bean Throwing Festival is a two-day Japanese holiday ("mame-maki" in Japanese). On that occasion, one spreads roasted soy beans all over the house. The number of beans should match the own age plus one extra. The very popular legumes should expel illnesses and bad luck and have to be eaten afterwards. Some Japanese sing additionally to welcome the luck and ask the devil to leave.
